Homework and classwork policy
You cannot learn math without lots of practice! We will spend the majority of our time actually working problems. Our focus will be on "using math" as opposed to "doing math." You will be required to do more than just memorize an algorithm ( a procedure for solving a mathematical problem) and repeat it back. You need to logically communicate your thinking and justify your answers. Answers without supporting work are never acceptable and will receive no credit. Calculators are not to be used on assignments unless you are specifically told to use them (I will provide graphing calculators for these assignments).
All work must be labeled with your name and the assignment number. Make sure to always write down the original problem and show your work BELOW the problem (never to the side). Your answer should be on its own line and easy to find. Please put spaces between problems and make sure they are numbered and in order. If you skip a problem you must leave a space where that problem should have been.
Your work should communicate to me what you know. You should always attempt every problem. If you are stuck you need to look for examples in your notes, your book, or on-line. You tube and kahn academy are two excellent resources.
I expect you to take pride in your work and to always put in your best effort. All assignments must be completed in PENCIL (you will need to erase a lot) on college ruled notebook paper (not ripped out of a spiral notebook). Do not scribble out work, use an eraser! If there is too much to erase, simply put an X through the work you don't want me to grade. You will be graded on completeness and accuracy.
